Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father had abandoned the family, and so she was taken care of by her mother, grandma and godparents. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder based on words as a young teenager. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she was a poor for the school. Ford returned to Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate made her television debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate received recognition for her stand-up comedy that has been added to her repertoire in the year 1996.
