Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. Ford joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she was a poor fit there. Ford decided to apply for the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her fellow students. Ford was graduated in 1993, but at the time she was already making her television debut in the 1991 season of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV shows including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre brought her into The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate's stand-up comedy style that she started adding to her show in the year 1996, was soon gaining her admiration.
